Manuel Antonio is one of the largest wildlife parks is in Manuel Antonio about a 45 minute drive north. Manuel Antonio Park encompasses rugged rain-forest, white-sand beaches and coral reefs. It’s renowned for its vast diversity of tropical plants and wildlife, from three-toed sloths and endangered white-faced capuchin monkeys to hundreds of bird species. The park’s roughly 680 hectares are crossed with hiking trails, which meander from the coast up into the mountains.
While it’s possible to explore these paths in the peace and quiet of your own company, we recommend you follow a local guide, whose impressive knowledge of the area can help spot animals and plants that would otherwise remain hidden in the dense vegetation. Guides will carry a telescopes so you can get an up-close view and take photos of the animals. They are usually very good at taking photos through the telescope with your cell phone camera, to file away your memories.
